Happy Veteran`s Day!
Written By: Salsa de Rosa Team ~ 11/8/2019

From one veteran to another, I want to wish all veterans a
Happy Veteran’s Day on behalf of Salsa de Rosa!

We’re honored to have several vets on our team: Me (Army), Erik (Navy) and Joe (Marine Corps). Josh is our only non-vet, but he went to a military prep school (court ordered…haha, just kidding) where he learned many of the great attributes military trained personnel do: Leadership, Teamwork, Discipline, Integrity, attention to detail, to name just a few. Hiring a vet is a no-brainer.

Now that I’m older, softer and crustier, it’s easy to look back on my days in the army with fondness. Truth be told, there was a lot of misery during my time as an Army Ranger. When I got out, I told myself I wouldn’t forget being wet, cold and tired versus only remembering the ‘good times’, of which there were plenty.

The Ranger Battalion at Ft. Lewis (now JBLM – joint base Lewis McChord), was reinstituted in Oct ’74. I arrived there in Nov ’77. I went through the original RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program) for newbie Rangers. Lt. Colonel Downing was my commander. He was superseded by Lt. Colonel Powell, who was killed in a C-130 accident in Ca that carried members of my platoon, a couple months after I had left.

Randy Shugart, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for the battle of Mogadishu in 1993, was in Alpha Company 1st Platoon at the same time I was in 3rd Platoon. He left the Ranger Battalion to join Delta Force, while I went off to get married instead.

How life’s paths take us in different directions.

Ro and I feel good about our choices. And now our son, Erik, also a vet (albeit from the Navy), will take over the business in the next couple of years thanks to the leadership of our GM Josh.

Google just recognized Salsa de Rosa for being ‘Veteran Led’ and ‘highly rated’.

P.S. Happy Birthday to our beloved Morgan.
She would be 32 on the 10th. Happy Birthday Morgan, thank you for interceding on our behalf.
